Where the numbers come from

Runway applies the rules the ATO and the state revenue offices publish: income tax and the Medicare levy, the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP repayments, super caps and preservation age, the CGT discount, stamp duty and land tax by state, and the Age Pension. Each rate comes from its official source, is dated, and is updated when it changes, usually each July.

Years past the last published rates use the latest rates carried forward, and are labelled as projected.

Assumptions

Growth, returns and inflation can’t be looked up; they are assumptions. Runway starts from sensible defaults, shows them, and lets you change every one. The projection is only as good as the figures and assumptions in it, so check them.

Runway works in financial years (1 July to 30 June), and counts everyone’s birthday as 1 January of the year they were born.

Outside Australia, the Generic profile lets you set your own tax brackets and rules.
